Winterzeit

Die heutige Sonntagsfreude war die zusätzliche Stunde Zeit, die ich heute zum Nähen mit meiner Mutter nutzen konnte, während meine Schwester daneben Prüfungsfragen ausarbeitete. Sehr gemütlich. Schon gestern hatten wir zu dritt in Gemeinschaftsarbeit die 140 Einzelteile für den Geburtstagsquilt meiner Tante fertiggestellt, die meine Mutter heute zusammennähte. Dieser Geburtstagsquilt ist einfach nur schön - und das sage ich nicht nur, weil ich das Quiltdesign dafür entworfen habe ;-) Bilder gibt es, wenn der Geburtstagsquilt fertig ist. Den Vorderteil meines Blätterquilts habe ich heute beendet. Eigentlich wollte ich den Baum auf dem Foto unten auch noch für die Rückseite des Blätterquilts verwenden, nun überlege ich, aus dem Baum einen eigenen Quilt zu machen. Weil meiner Schwester der Baum so gut gefiel, sie gerne einen Bodenpolster mit dem Design haben möchte und ich eine nette große Schwester bin, habe ich heute Abend nach dem Heimkommen schon mit den nächsten Baum begonnen. 75 bunte Blätter zuschneiden...

Today Winter time started so clocks had to be moved backwards one hour. My Sunday´s joy was the extra hour of sewing time with my mum, while my sister was preparing for her exams. We sat all together at the big dining room table, very cozy. Yesterday the three of us finished all 140 pieces of the birthdayquilt for my aunt´s 50th birthday next month. This quilt is going to be soo pretty- and I´m not only saying that because I designed it ;-) I´ll show pictures when that quilt is finished. Today my mum sewed the pieces of the birthday quilt together while I finished the quilttop with the falling leaves. Actually I wanted to use the tree block below for the pieced back of the falling leaves quilt. Now I´m thinking of using it in an extra quilt. I have already started another tree block after I came home tonight, because my sister liked it so much and wants a floor cushion with that design and I´m a nice big sister.

Ich freue mich sehr über den Baum. Ist doch schön, wenn ein Muster so klappt, wie man es gezeichnet hat.

Das Foto wurde in einem komischen Winkel aufgenommen, ich wollte soviel Licht wie möglich auf den Baum bekommen- der Nachteil, wenn man nachts in künstlichen Licht Fotos macht.... The picture was taken from a funny angle- I was trying to get as much light on the block as possible. The disadvantage of taking pictures at night...

Sonntagsfreude [Sunday´s joy]

In letzter Zeit kam ich kaum zum Nähen. Es ist daher eine echte Sonntagsfreude, wenn am Sonntag ein wenig Zeit zum Nähen bleibt und beim Blätterquilt langsam Fortschritte erkennbar sind. Es ist auch schön, wenn ein selbstentworfenes Muster langsam Gestalt annimmt. Es fehlen nur noch zwei mittelgrüne Blätter und 12 andere Blocks. Wenn ich im selben Tempo weiternähe bin ich schon im Frühling mit diesem Herbstquilt fertig. ;-)

Die Farben im Foto stimmen ganz und gar nicht. The Blätter sind eigentlich limettengrün, dunkelgrün, verschiedene Abstufungen von violett und weinrot. Vorallem die violetten Blätter sehen viel zu blau aus.

During the last weeks I didn´t find much time for sewing. So it´s a real Sunday´s joy when there is some time for sewing left and there is slowly a little progress in my leavesquilt. It´s also nice to see a pattern I came up with is slowly taking form. Only two more green leaves and 12 other blocks to go. ;-)

The colors in this picture are not right. The leaves are lime green, dark green, different shades of purple and wine red. Especially the purple turns out too blue in the picture. I need to take pictures in real light outside when the quilt will be finished.

Herzig [sweethearted]

Um jedem zu zeigen, wie sehr ihr Kürbis mögt, für Herbstdekos oder für ein herziges Mitbringsel für eine Herbsteinladung, braucht ihr nur eine Kürbispflanze im Garten oder im Balkontrog und ein wenig Vorausplanung. Ihr müsst dann nur im Sommer mit einem sauberen spitzen Gegenstand ein Herzchen in einen unreifen Kürbis einritzen. Das Muster sollte nur ganz oberflächlich eingeritzt werden, sonst fängt der Kürbis vielleicht zu faulen an. Wenn der Kürbis reift und aushärtet, wird das Herz erhaben sichtbar. Das geht natürlich auch mit Strichmännchen, Smileys oder Botschaften.

To show everyone that you heart pumpkins, for fall decoration or to make a sweethearted present for a fall invitation you don´t need much more than a pumpkin plant in your garden or in your flower box and a little advance planning. In summer when the pumpkins are still unripe and their skin is still soft you take a clean sharp knife or iron nail and carefully scratch a heart into the pumkin´s skin. When the pumpkin grows the heart will be more visible. Works also with stickmen, smileys or messages.

Sonntagsfreuden...
Vormittags über zwei Stunden mit M und J durch den Wald huschen und beraureifte Blätter bewundern. Nachmittags mit dem Mann des Hauses am Wasser spazierengehen
Sunday´s joy...scampering through the woods for two hours with M and J in the morning, admiring hoar frosted leaves. Walking by the water with the man of the house in the afternoon.

Es ist Mitte Oktober und gibt sogar noch Seerosen!

It´s the middle of october and there are still waterlilies!

Herbstlaub [autumn foliage]

Sonntagmorgen habe ich Stoffschnippsel farblich vorsortiert...
Sundaymorning I sorted scraps by color...
...schnitt daraus 105 Deltoide zu...

...cut 105 deltoids from scraps...

...und begann die Rückseite meines Herbstlaubquiltes.
...and started to sew the back of my autumn foliage quilt.

Dann sehen wir mal, ob ich diesen Quilt rechtzeitig vor dem Winter fertigstellen kann.

Let´s see if I can finish this quilt in time.

gegen den Nebel

Wenn es frühmorgens so aussieht, muss ich einfach mit Farbe dagegenhalten.
When it looks like this at the early morning I can´t help myself - I have to add some color.

Sieht doch nett aus, auf dem Sofa. Ich hätte die Pölster vor dem Fotografieren natürlich glattstreichen können, aber dann sähe es gestellt aus, nicht wie im richtigen Leben, oder? Also. Alles pure Absicht. Looks nice on our couch (Probably I could have flattend out all the wrinkles in the pillows but wanted to keep it real ...ahem..)

It´s just easy raw edge appliqué. I ironed scraps on the fusible interfacing, cut out some leaves freehand and appliqued them to a piece of raw linen with a green border. After that I sew a pillowcase. It didn´t take me longer than one hour alltogether and I ♥ the result. (The inspiration for the tree pillow was from Cluck cluck sew.)

Glückspilz [lucky duck]

Vor einiger Zeit bot mir total nette und talentierte Eigentümerin des Blogs busy bee quilts an, mir ein paar Stoffe zu schicken, die ich bei ihr bewundert hatte. Ganz ohne Gegenleistung wollte ich das tolle Angebot aber nicht annehmen und so verabredeten wir Anfang September eine Art Stofftausch. Ich schickte ihr ein paar Stoffe, die ich in Frankreich gefunden hatte, ein deutsches Quiltmagazin und ein bißchen Schnickeldi für ihre herzigen Kinder. Das Paket ist zum Glück schon bei ihr angekommen. Unsere Post machte es dagegen spannend. Ich sah jeden Tag im Briefkasten nach- nichts! Nachdem ich kürzlich erfahren hatte, dass ein Paket, das mir eine Studienfreundin vor einiger Zeit zum Geburtstag geschickt hatte, verloren gegangen war, wollte ich meiner Tauschpartnerin schon schreiben, dass vielleicht irgendwer meine Pakete frisst. Aber beim Heimkommen war das auf unserer Türmatte! (Auf der Türmatte! Warum nicht im Briefkasten bzw hätte der Briefträger ja eine Benachrichtigung hinterlassen können.???)

Some time ago the super nice and talented owner of the blog busy bee quilts offered to send me some fabrics I had admired at her blog. Who would say no? ;-) I didn´t want to accept this generous offer without reward, so we agreed on some fabric swap. It was fun to look for some fabrics for her on our vacation in France and I´m glad she received the little package already. Our post kept me in suspence. I checked the postbox daily but then a friend from univeristy asked if I had received her package that she had sent to me for my birthday a while ago and I found out it obviously got lost. I was about to tell my swappartner today that s.o. is eating my packages... Look what I found on the door sill when I came home! (btw: On the doorsill? Why not in the postbox or -if it was too big- the postman could have left a message in the post box.???) Der Mann des Hauses beobachtete mich beim Auspacken und stellte fest, dass für mich wohl schon heute das Christkind gekommen sei. Genauso war´s! Alleine die Zigarrenkiste war schon wunderbar und dann der Inhalt! Wahnsinn!

The man of the house watched me opening the package and decided that the Christ child came earlier for me this year (in Austria kids don´t believe in Santa Claus, they believe that baby Jesus aka the Christ child gives them presents at Christmas). The cigarbox alone was great but the content was simply fantastic!

Ich mag die Farbkombi von rot und blau so sehr und es ist unglaublich schwierig, bei uns Stoffe mit beiden Farben auf einmal zu finden. Man kann sich also vorstellen, wie ich hüpfte. Sie passen auch so schön zu dem sonnigen gelb.
I like the color combination of red and blue a lot (even a tad more than the oh so popular combination of red and aqua) and it´s incredibly difficult to find fabric with red AND blue on it here.You can imagine how happy I was! They go together so well with the sunny yellow.


Könntet ihr einen Lieblingsstoff aussuchen? Ich nicht. Aber ich habe schon ein paar Ideen, was ich damit machen könnte. :-)

Could you choose a favourite fabric? I couldn´t. But I do have some ideas what I could do with it. :-)

Sonntagsfreude [sunday´s joy]

Die heutige Sonntagsfreude war FARBE.
Sunday´s joy today was COLOR.

Um diese Jahreszeit bin ich wie Frederick, die Maus. Ich sammle auf Vorrat Sonnenstrahlen und Farbe, "Denn der Winter ist grau!" Heuer ist das leicht, wir haben Anfang Oktober, das Licht ist golden und die Leute baden sogar noch im See!
At this time of the year I am like Frederick, the mouse. Like Frederick I collect rays of sunlight and color: "Because the winter is gray". These days this is easy, it´s the beginning of October and people are still swimming in the lake!

Soviele Farben, so klares Licht! Man kann die Farben direkt einatmen. Ich sammle die Farben dieser Jahreszeit und konserviere ein paar für die grauen Herbsttage, zum Beispiel in diesem Polsterbezug.

So many colors, such clear light! I think one can breath in those colors. I collect this season´s colors and preserve them for the gray autumn and winter days, e.g. in this pillow case.

That´s what the pillow looks like back home in my arm chair.

Die Blattadern habe ich mit der Hand nachgestickt und das Polsteroberteil mit der Maschine gequiltet.

The fabrics are entirely from my stash, mostly traditional Austrian dirndl dress fabric and some polka dots. To me this color combination is far from traditional and says "Fall!". I embroidered the leaf´s details by hand and machine quilted the rest.
